How will I learn on the MA in Communication Design

Enquiry Based Learning

This programme is at Masters level so there is a strong emphasis on independent learning and research. It is also very much practically focussed. Expect challenge, up and downs, learning by doing and learning through getting things wrong.

ISCA emphasizes how research as a pedagogical tool helps to develop research skills and deep content understanding so students can recognize, require, refine, reward and report research activity. Our collaborative pedagogy allows students to develop their research experience and skills and acquire relevant domain knowledge on the understanding that research is not only knowledge creation – it also has educational value through the process of doing research itself.

The skills acquired in doing research cover all the critical skills needed for current century. Problem identification, framing research questions, designing and Planning, problem solving techniques, Team working, interaction with reality, writing reports and presentation.

ISCA faculty will guide students to identify what they are interested in and what sparks their passions. There will be constant discussion with peers and teachers on how to ask good research questions. This basic question then develops into an idea through brainstorming and collaborating. Students are then targeted towards self-directed study to research for the information needed and are guided and assessed to progress until they resolve the problem.

Assessment

Each module is assessed through formative and summative assessments. Students have the opportunity to apply their learning and skills from their chosen specialist area to the assignment brief, whether Animation, Advertising, Graphic design, Game art design or Visual effects.
